明州华联会在UFM举行捐赠仪式

Alliance of Minnesota Chinese Organizations (AMCO) will host:

A Ceremony of Chinese American Donation to United Family Medicine, 11am, May 10, 2020 at Sibley Plaza Clinic, 2423 West 7th Street, St. Paul, MN55116

As the COVID-19 pandemic swept the country, we are also facing the darkest time in the United States. More and more people are getting sick and the death toll is rising day by day. At this most difficult time, our frontline medical professionals at United Family Medicine are facing another big challenge. UFM is a non-profit clinic for underserved people in the Twin Cities area. Many of the patients they serve are the most vulnerable people in St Paul. These patients either have insufficient insurance or do not have medical insurance at all. Due to the special nature of the UFM clinic, there have been a large increase in the number of underinsured or uninsured patients who need diagnosis and treatment at the clinic in this pandemic. Meanwhile, large number of normal and insured appointments are canceled due to the pandemic, which has greatly reduced the income stream of UFM. In addition, the cost of purchasing PPE (protective clothing, goggles, N95 masks, etc.) and other medical equipment has also greatly exceeded the budget. All these factors have brought an unusually heavy burden to UFM.

When the local Chinese community learned the financial difficulty that UFM is facing, we all felt that we must do something to help UFM. If hospitals and clinics can’t operate effectively, we will all suffer in this pandemic. At this difficult time, medical workers are warriors to protect us. They are angels to lead us out of the darkness. We must give them full support.  In the past few weeks, AMCO (Alliance of Minnesota Chinese Organizations) joined force with other local Chinese organizations and individuals and launched a fundraising and PPE donation campaign for UFM.

Our grass-root campaign received tremendous support from the local Chinese community. What one of our donors said best reflects our feeling. He said: “I feel I must do something to help those who are in the front line bearing the burden of the work to help the current situation. It is a way for me to say that we are all in this together and we must work together to overcome the situation.”

In the past few weeks, the local Chinese community donated over $110,000 through the AMCO campaign and direct donations to UFM fundraising. We have also been donating 8000 masks to United Family Medicine, 1000 masks to Abbott Northwestern Hospital, 1000 masks to Open Cities Clinics, 1000 masks to Hennepin County sheriffs and 1000 masks to Little Sisters of The Poor, 7000 masks to nursing homes and seniors, and we will do more. Those masks are from Beijing, Chong Qing, Hunan, and individuals in China.

We want to take this opportunity to thank all donors and volunteers. Especially we want to give our heartfelt thanks to all medical workers at United Family Medicine!

AMCO and UFM will host a Ceremony of Chinese American Donation to United Family Medicine at 11am, May 10, 2020 at Sibley Plaza Clinic, 2423 West 7th Street, St. Paul, MN55116.  Please come to join the Ceremony.
